2008 BIKEWAYS MAP OF DU PAGE COUNTY
Countywide Bikeway Plan Map of DuPage County

A PDF copy of the 2008 DuPage County Regional Bikeways Map appears on the link below labeled "Bikeways Map".   This single map  includes data from all of the agencies that plan and implement bikeway projects in DuPage County including the Forest Preserve District, municipalities, park districts, townships, DuPage County Division of Transportation, Fermilab, and others.

A more complete description of the DuPage County Regional Bikeway Plan can be found under the "Regional Plan Summary" section of this website.

More detail is available by utilzing link and instrutions below  We are continuing to work on refining the maps posted on-line so that you are able to access the best information we have available.  In the interim, please feel free to send me your street mailing address if you would like a hard copy of the map and/or if you are having trouble viewing this map and need more detail.  Contact me by email dfagan@dupageco.org or call 630-407-6883 (please send or leave your street mailing address).

Existing Bikeways and Roads Suitable for Bicycling

For those wishing to find current routes, bicycle lanes, or multi-purpose trails; or roads that are suitable for bicycling, we also added on the website a map showing these facilities on the link below labeled "Bikeways and Roads Suitable for Bicycle Travel".   The map identifies on-road bicycle routes and lanes vs. off-road trails and paths.  In addition we show off-road facilities which are paved vs. paths that are unpaved or aggregate.    To assist in route planning, the map shows locations of many typical bicycle destinations such as forest preserves, local open space such as community parks, commuter Metra stations, regional shopping centers, and local schools.

Roads suitable for bicycling are divided into 2 classes called "A" and "B".  Class A roads are generally characterized by lower traffic volumes, lower posted speed limits, and more narrow but sufficiently wide enough streets for safe travel (typically residential roadways or collectors of sufficient width and non-conflicting land uses).  Class B roads are for more experienced bicyclists and include higher traffic volumes, higher posted speed limits, and more hazards or variable land uses.

If you would like a hard copy of the map and/or if you are having trouble viewing this map and need more detail, please contact me by email dfagan@dupageco.org or call 630-407-6883 (please send or leave your street mailing address).
