The following information is provided to answer the most commonly asked questions regarding a civil marriage ceremony.
Where are marriages performed?
Marriages are performed at the DuPage County Judicial Center, 505 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton.
When are marriages performed?
Every Friday (except court holidays) at 11:45 am. Wedding registration is at 11:30 am. The bridal couple must be present at that time. Late arrivals will not be accepted.
What type of ceremony is it?
The court will perform a private, 10 minute, marriage ceremony.
Is there a fee?
Yes, there is a $10.00 fee payable at the time of the wedding.
Do we need a marriage license?
Yes, you must obtain your marriage license at least one day and no more than 60 days prior to your marriage.
How do we get the marriage license?
Marriage licenses are obtained from the DuPage County Clerk, 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4:30pm. Both parties must appear and present proof of age and proper identification and a license fee of $35.00. If you have been divorced, you must provide the month, date and year of your divorce at the time you apply for your marriage license. Please allow at least 20 minutes to process your license request.
Is a blood test required?
No, a blood test is no longer required by law.
Do we need to bring a witness?
No, witnesses are not necessary. Guests are welcome and invited to attend. Cameras are also welcome.
Does the court provide interpreters?
No, interpreters are the responsibility of the couple. A t h i rd-party interpreter must be p resent if either the bride or the groom has difficulty understanding the English language.
Do we need to schedule a wedding date?
No appointment is necessary. However,the bridal couple must be present at 11:30 am on the Friday they wish to marry for registration.
Can we get married at a location other than the Courthouse?
Yes, The Office of the Chief Justice maintains a list of retired Judges that are available to perform marriage ceremonies. The list may be obtained by calling (630) 407-8901.
