Illinois Joining Forces (IJF) is an organization sponsored by the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA) and Illinois Military Affairs (Illinois Army and Air Force National Guard) to provide assistance to veterans and their families.  Their Website is www.illinoisjoiningforces.org and when you go there, you can find information on topics such as; Emergency Assistance, Education, Disability Benefits and other items.  You can also find information on civilian support organizations and agencies specifically for each county.

 

May 2 – DuPage Veterans Foundation’s annual Honor Flight Fund Raiser. 11am – 3pm, DuPage Airport, West Chicago.  There will be food, entertainment, military vehicles and aircraft.  This is free for WWII and Korean War Veterans.  This is a fund raiser to raise money for Honor Flight Chicago.

     

May 15 – DuPage Veteran’s Resource Fair.  DuPage County #421 Building, 9am – 2pm.  There will be over 50 agencies there to provide information and resources to Veterans and their families, and anyone who’s looking for information.  This is open to the public. The DuPage County Recorder’s Office will be there to sign-up Veterans for their “Honor Rewards Program” and the Illinois Secretary of State will be there to put “Veteran” on Veteran’s driver’s licenses and state ID cards.  After Jan 1, 2020, Veterans will not have to go to IDVA to get their DD-214 stamped for their driver’s license.  The Secretary of State’s Office can do it all there.

     

May 28 – Military/Veteran 101 Training. DuPage County #421 Building, 9am – 3pmYou will receive basic information on the different military branch of services, what a military servicemember did while in the military, and what a Veteran is.  Over 175 people have attended this in the past and I was asked to do it again.

     

June 10 – DuPage Homeless Veterans Task Force Seminar.  DuPage County #421 Building, 9am – 11am.  This is our annual seminar to give updated information on how we’re ending Veteran homelessness in DuPage County and how the community can help us. 

     

June 17 – “Caring for your Aging Brain”.  This is presented by Dr. Amanda Urban, Neuropsychologist, Neuropsychologist Program Manager, VA Hines Hospital.  DuPage County #421 Building, 9am – 12pm.  This is outstanding.  Amanda will explain how the brain ages as you get older.  She will talk about Alzheimer’s and Dementia.  I saw this presentation a couple of years ago and asked her to present it here.
